Conor McCarthy-Musical Director

Conor McCarthy is a Limerick-born pianist, teacher and musical director based in Gorey Co. Wexford. Conor holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree (B.Mus.Ed) from both Trinity College Dublin and the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. He also holds Diplomas in Piano Performance with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) and the London College of Music (ALCM).

By day, Conor is a piano teacher in Gorey. He actively works as an accompanist for concerts, musicals and other various events. He is heavily involved in musical theatre in the southeast and regularly works with many societies and schools.

Conor was the musical director for Gorey Musical Theatre’s production of West Side Story which won best overall show at AIMS last year. He was also nominated for best musical director for the same show.

Conor is the co-founder of the North Wexford Musical Theatre (NWMT) which was founded in 2020.  He works alongside director and colleague Stephen Acton. NWMT’s two previous productions Title of Show and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change have earned consecutive AIMS awards in the Spirit of AIMS category. Their 2023 production of Rent, staged in September, was the group’s biggest show to date.

His recent engagements include musical director for NWMT Rent (September 2023), Gorey Musical Society’s Hits from the Musicals (November 2023), and Carnew Musical Society’s The Addams Family.

His upcoming engagements include NWMT’s Spring Awakening (September 2024) and Carnew Musical Society’s Beauty and the Beast (November 2024).
