Stephen Acton-Director

Stephen is a graduate of University College Cork and currently works in both the Education and Theatre sector. As well as teaching and directing, Stephen is a tutor in Drama and Theatre Studies at 3rd level. He has worked as a producer, director and designer with a number of theatre companies and musical societies throughout Ireland. 

Musical Theatre directorial credits include ‘Jekyll & Hyde’, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, ‘Godspell’, ‘Ragtime’, ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Oliver’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’, ‘Grease’, ‘Shrek’, ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘9 to 5’, ‘Hairspray’, ‘The Sound of Music’, ‘Sister Act’, ‘west Side Story’, ‘RENT’, and ‘The Producers’.

Stephen is a founding member of the North Wexford-based Drama Group the Rasper Players and has seen them to numerous All-Irelands over the years. Stephen has won awards at All-Ireland level for direction, acting, and design.

Along with his colleague and friend Conor McCarthy, Stephen founded North Wexford Musical Theatre in 2021. They were delighted to be one of the first companies to stage a production in front of a live audience after a series of unfortunate lockdowns. They have produced three productions to date – ‘Title of Show’, ‘I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!’ and ‘RENT’.

In 2016, Stephen received an AIMS nomination for Best Director for his production of ‘Evita’ with Avonmore Musical Society.

He was honoured yet again to receive the award for Best Director for Gorey Musical Society’s production of ‘West Side Story’ in 2023.
